Crucial SSD Drive – Multiple fail rate
Had a bit of a busy week at the Data Centre, all thanks to Crucial and their SSD Drives.
We run a high availability SSD cloud for magento and standard hosting customers. We have seen a high fail rate of all of our nodes with Crucial SSD drives that were less than six months old to the extent we have swapped the whole estate out for a mixture of Samsung and OCZ drives.
Customers sites were not at any risk thanks to the high availability nature of our cloud as when a node failed the sites are transferred instantly to another spare node. One thing was interesting that they failed within 24 hours of each other in the order they were installed. We always mix up our serial numbers and this long standing practice did relieve the pain somewhat.
The only benefit is we have seen a big improvement in IOP’s and will be staying away from Crucial tech for our ssd drives in the future.
